What to bring

The answer you entered to the math problem is incorrect.

If you plan to stay in Punta Mona, here is a list of things you really should bring:

Groups:

  • rubber boots, if you have them
  • tall socks
  • sandals
  • bathing suit
  • towels
  • biodegradable shampoo, soap, etc.
  • band-aids
  • medical suplies
  • all-natural bug repellent (Herbal Armor and Burts Bees are great)
  • long-sleeved cotton pants and shirts
  • t-shirts and shorts
  • rain coats with hoods

All interns:

  • rubber boots - much more advisable than hiking boots, as they keep out the water
  • tall socks - a few pairs, for use in boots and to keep sand fleas and mosquitoes from biting in the nights!!
  • machete and lima- can be bought at any hardware store or fereterria in san jose or puerto viejo
  • work gloves
  • sheets
  • sandals
  • a bathing suit
  • a towel
  • biodegradable laundry soap, shampoo, soap, etc
  • a good stock of band-aides (just in case)
  • all-natural bug repellent (Herbal Armor and Burts Bees are great!)
  • notebook and pens
  • long-sleeved cotton pants and shirts (again very important for mosquitos)
  • t-shirts and shorts
  • rain coat with hood
  • dietary items and/or supplements that you will want to have during your time at Punta Mona
  • Ziploc bags or Tupperware - to prevent ants from being attracted to your food if you bring in goodies, and to keep things dry and clean
  • We highly recommend bringing tea tree oil- it solves a variety of jungle issues

Here are some things you may find useful, but not absolutely necessary:

  • tea tree and/or lavender oil
  • all-natural sunscreen
  • laptop and charger (yes, we do have internet- but we have just one computer for interns to use, so it is best to bring your own... must be wireless compatible)
  • first aid supplies
  • all natural candles
  • lighters!
  • plastic bags to keep clothes dry
  • beach towel
  • books
  • mp3 players / ipods
  • ipod speakers
  • musical instruments!
  • cameras / camera charger
  • rechargable batteries and charger
  • a copy of Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison

Please DO NOT bring any soap, shampoo, or conditioner that is not biodegradable!!!

Please, if you smoke tobacco, bring only rolling tobacco (such as Organic American Spirit)- no cigarettes with filters!!

Please be warned that the tropical jungle is not the kindest environment for material posessions. We recommend not bringing anything you are really attatched to (clothes, jewelry, books, etc.) as things might get wet / moldy / stained / really smelly (even things such as books).

And last, but not least: bring a good attitude, enthusiasm, and an open heart!

Many people ask us if we would like them to bring us anything... here is an ongoing wish list, if you feel inclined and oh so generous:
